What Does It Mean to Be a Godly Man in Today’s World?
The world is changing rapidly, and with those changes come shifting expectations of men. Some say masculinity is toxic. Others say men are unnecessary. But the Bible gives a completely different view — one rooted in purpose, strength, humility, and unwavering truth.
So what does it mean to be a godly man in today’s culture? How can a man live out his faith with integrity when the world seems to pull in every direction?
The answer isn’t complicated — but it does require courage.
Godly Men Aren’t Perfect — They’re Growing
A godly man isn’t someone who has everything figured out.
A godly man doesn’t pretend he is flawless or tries to impress people.
Instead:
-
He learns
-
He responds to Scripture
-
He grows over time
-
He seeks God more than approval
Biblical manhood isn’t about outer appearance — it’s about inner strength.
Biblical character isn’t abstract — you can see it in Scripture characters such as those celebrated in Strong Women of the Bible who model godly character for every believer.
1. A Godly Man Walks in Integrity
In a world filled with shortcuts, dishonesty, and pressure to “just do what everyone else does,” a godly man chooses what is right — even when no one sees it.
Integrity means:
[affiliate-disclosure]-
Keeping your word
-
Being the same person in public and private
-
Admitting when you’re wrong
Proverbs 10:9 says:
“Whoever walks in integrity walks securely.”
2. A Godly Man Takes Responsibility
In Genesis 3, Adam’s failure wasn’t eating fruit — it was refusing responsibility.
A godly man doesn’t blame, excuse, or escape.
He says:
“I will do what God has called me to do.”
In marriage.
In family.
In work.
In faith.
Responsibility builds respect. Passivity destroys it.
3. A Godly Man Shows Courage
Courage isn’t loud bragging or toughness.
Courage is:
-
Speaking truth with humility
-
Standing firm when pressured to compromise
-
Doing what’s right even when uncomfortable
Joshua 1:9 reminds us:
“Be strong and courageous… for the Lord your God is with you.”
4. A Godly Man Is Gentle and Strong at the Same Time
This is where the world gets confused.
The Bible teaches strength wrapped in gentleness — not weakness, and not aggression.
Jesus was:
-
Bold with hypocrites
-
Tender with the hurting
-
Truthful with sinners
-
Firm with oppressors
A godly man follows that pattern.
5. A Godly Man Guards His Heart
The world attacks the heart through:
-
Lust
-
Anger
-
Bitterness
-
Pride
-
Comparison
-
Distractions
Proverbs 4:23 says:
“Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.”
A godly man chooses:
-
What he allows in his mind
-
What he consumes
-
What he watches
-
What he speaks
He protects his heart as his most valuable resource.
6. A Godly Man Serves with Humility
Jesus washed the disciples’ feet.
Then He said, “Go and do likewise.”
True leadership is servant leadership.
A godly man:
-
Encourages others
-
Helps the weak
-
Lifts the discouraged
-
Does small things without applause
Real strength isn’t demanding first place — it’s putting others first.
7. A Godly Man Stays Anchored in Scripture
Many men are drowning in:
-
News cycles
-
Political confusion
-
Cultural pressure
Scripture gives clarity, direction, and stability.
A godly man doesn’t just own a Bible — he reads it, studies it, and applies it.
His faith isn’t emotional — it’s anchored.
Another engaging way to study Scripture can be found in our ‘Bible study meets Word search’ activity book.
Can Men Live This Out Today?
YES — but not alone.
God equips, empowers, and directs.
Men need:
-
Scripture
-
Accountability
-
Fellowship
-
Encouragement
-
Truth
They need examples — strong biblical men to model.
That’s why I created the Strong Men of the Bible — Revised Study Edition, a resource filled with leadership lessons, guided questions, and practical life application from the lives of 52 significant men in Scripture. A godly man stays anchored in Scripture — just as in our Bible Study Meets Word Search tools, which encourage deeper engagement with God’s Word.
It is designed to help men:
-
Grow spiritually
-
Lead courageously
-
Live with conviction
-
Strengthen their walk with God

Final Thought
Being a godly man isn’t about perfection — it’s about direction.
Every man who follows Christ will stumble, fail, and fall short.
But the man who keeps getting back up,
who keeps seeking God’s strength,
who keeps choosing truth…
Is the man God will use powerfully in today’s world.
